CeNTI - Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials is an institute for new technologies, founded in 2006 by University of Minho, University of Porto, University of Aveiro, Citeve and CTIC.
CeNTI services take a multi-disciplinary approach and include the participation of experienced technologists and researchers (physicists, chemists, electronics/chemical/materials engineers). CeNTI is a distinct European research and development centre, equipped with cutting-edge technologies, and conducting world-class research and development.
CeNTI provides, in a business to business approach, applied R&D, engineering and scaling-up production of innovative smart materials and devices, with special focus in electronics (organic electronics and embedded systems), polymers (fibres and coatings), functional materials (nanomaterials and processes) and products numerical optimization (buildings and materials).
CeNTI is an active member of two European Associations: Organic Electronics Association (OE-A) and Energy Efficient Building (E2B). Currently, CeNTI has more than 40 industry driven ongoing projects, counting with 40 R&D staff, in 2000 m2 labs and process facilities.
European projects(finished and ongoing):
- Inteltex (FP6) - Intelligent multi-reactive textiles (www.inteltex.eu)
- Dephotex (FP7 NMP) – Development of Photovoltaic Textiles based on novel Fibres (www.dephotex.com)
- COLAE - Commercialization Clusters of OLAE (http://www.colae.eu/)
- DIGINOVA - Innovation for Digital Fabrication (http://diginova-eu.org/)
- SUS-CON SUStainable, innovative and energy-efficient CONcrete, based on the integration of all-waste materials
- POWERWEAVE - Development of Textiles for Electrical Energy Generation and Storage
That are two other national initiatives from CeNTI: Nano@Construction (an overview about nanotechnology applied to buildings to improve energy efficiency - http://www.nanoatconstrucao.org) and other about the development of a label to energy efficiency certification of materials and construction solutions.
