The Institute of Environment and Development (IDAD) is a scientific and technical non-profit association established in Aveiro, Portugal, that provides consultancy services in the areas of environment and sustainable development. With 20 years of expertise, the IDAD activities are focused on the development of environmental impact assessment and strategic planning studies and on environmental modelling and monitoring activities.
The Institute works since its foundation in close cooperation with the University of Aveiro and in particular with the Centre of Environmental and Marine Studies.
Along with the consulting area, an accredited laboratory conducts environmental analysis in the analytical areas: waste water discharge, gaseous waste, acoustics and ambient air.
The list of studies of this Institute includes large environmental monitoring programs to control waste incineration units in Portugal, strategic environmental impact studies such the High-speed railway network in Portugal, the Portuguese Logistic infrastructure plan and the New airport of Lisbon, and also environmental policy studies, such as the National strategic reference framework in the fields of environment and risk prevention and the Atmospheric pollutants emissions law, among others.
There is also relevant expertise on the subject of indoor environmental quality and on the sustainability assessment of built environments gathered with the development of numerous local and national studies, namely the indoor air quality assessment of Portuguese dwellings, the sustainable management of municipalities and the environmental and energy management of buildings.
